180 DEGREE JUMP IN THE HALFPIPE

The most basic jump on the halfpipe is the 180 degree jump off the vertical wall section (vert). The rider in the photo sequence is riding goofy, facing the camera. Start by riding the flat toward the transition in a flexed stance (knees bent). As the board rides up the transition (Photo 1) prepare for the jump by extending the knees (pumping, Photo 2). Flex the knees (suck up the knees) to get air and counter rotate the upper body so that the board rotates in the direction of the jump turn (Photo 3).

Keep the arms wide apart to force the lower body to align with the upper body as shown in Photo 4. Now continue to rotate the upper body and arms in a direction opposite to the turn (counter rotation) to get the board 180 degrees for the landing (Photo 5). Land on the vertical or transition with flexion and continue to the next jump (Photo 6).

Photos 7 through 12 show the same maneuver, initiated from the rider's toe side (facing away from the camera), on the opposite side of the halfpipe with an Indie grab (Photo 10) perfomed during the air phase.
