THE JUMP 180

The jump 180 is an elementary jump turn that helps prepare the rider for the half pipe. Try it first on nearly level terrain. Then on the verticals in the half pipe. In photo 1 the rider is on a toe side traverse. In photo 2 the rider flexes the knees and ankles in preparation for the jump. In photo 3 the rider extends such that the board leaves the snow. The rider also simultaneously extends the arms to stabilize the upper body and provide rotational inertia or resistance to upper body rotation.

In photo 4 the lower body is twisted counter-clockwise (looking down on the rider) and the board rotates counter-clockwise. Photo 5 shows the landing, while photo 6 shows the rider assuming the fakie riding position. The rider's direction of travel does not change even though the snowboard rotates 180 degrees.
