THE FALLING LEAF

The falling leaf is a maneuver to learn early in one's snowboard career. In Photo 1 the rider is on a heel side skidded traverse. In photo 2 the rider presses the toe of the rear foot down thereby releasing the edge of the rear of the board. The causes the rider to travel up hill and stall (Photo 3) The rider then starts on a heel side traverse in switch position (Photo 4). The rider then flattens the rear of the board with rear foot toe pressure causing the edge to release (Photo 5), travel up hill and stall (Photo 6). The cycle then repeats and represents as zig-zag type of maneuver similar to a leaf falling from a tree, hence the falling leaf.
