TYPES OF SNOW BOARDS
Shown above are three types of snowboards used by riders. The bottom snowboard is a freestyle board and is used for all around riding and for performing tricks. Soft bindings and soft boots are used for flexibility needed for performing in the half pipe. The freestyle board is the most popular. The middle board is an asymmetrical race board with hard bindings designed to carve. The tail of the board is shorter on one side, hence the asymmetry. The toe side edge of the board is shifted forward when compared to the heel side edge.
Hard boots are used with the hard bindings, yielding a more precise system for edging the board.
The top board is a symmetrical carving all mountain board designed for cruising. Both the asymmertical and all mountain carving boards are not normally used for performing tricks on a half-pipe.
