CROSSING THE WAKE ON A SLALOM SKI

After practicing with proper positioning behind the boat, the next maneuver to try is crossing the wake from behind the boat to the outside. Start in the relaxed knees and ankles bent position (Photo 1). Lean to one side (in this case the right) and the ski will tend to drift toward the right (Photo 2). Absorb the wake with the knees and ankles (Photo 3). Commit to going over the wake without hesitation. Hesitating on the wake is unstable and may result in a fall.

Ski down the back of the wake (photo 4) and lean away from the wake to cut out into smooth, undisturbed water on a calm day. Cutting out in wavy weather will be more challenging.

Photos 5 through 8 shows the same sequence only this time the skier is cutting from outside the wake toward the inside.
